How to stay safe when downloading tools online

Most problems with free tools come from fake download pages, not from the tools themselves. A few habits keep you and your device safe.

Before you download

• Only use links from the creator's official page or a source you trust.
• Check that the file name and size match what the creator shows.
• Never type your password into a page that a download link opened.

On link pages

• Link pages like Linkvertise or Lootlabs may ask you to finish a step before the file.
• You never need to install an extra app, browser extension or "cleaner" to continue.
• Close any page that says your device is infected. That's a scam.

After you download

• Scan the file with your antivirus before you open it.
• If something feels off, delete it. No tool is worth your account.
